Ambiq
Overview
Ambiq is a fabless semiconductor company that designs ultra-low power hardware and software for AI compute at the edge. Its core SPOT (Sub-threshold Power Optimized Technology) platform enables sub-threshold and near-threshold operation to reduce power consumption. Ambiq offers a full stack of ultra-low power SoCs and supporting software for on-chip AI, general compute, sensing, security, storage, and wireless connectivity. The company sells SoCs through direct and distributor channels and plans to develop SPOT into a licensable technology platform.
Products and technology
- SPOT platform: operates standard transistors in sub-threshold and near-threshold modes combined with low-power architectures to achieve two to five times lower power than conventional designs.
- SoC families:
- Apollo (examples: Apollo3, Apollo4 for software-based AI; Apollo5 for vector-accelerated AI)
- Atomiq (in development): targets higher-performance edge AI with an NPU and memory innovations
- Software and ecosystems:
- AmbiqSuite SDK (firmware and drivers)
- Feature modules: graphiqSPOT (graphics), blueSPOT (Bluetooth), secureSPOT (security), and others
- Helia ecosystem and neuralSPOT for AI model development and runtimes
Markets and growth strategy
- Target markets: wearables and body-worn devices, AR/VR glasses, smart rings, digital health monitors, medical/healthcare, industrial edge, smart homes/buildings, livestock and crop sensing, factory automation. Potential expansion into data centers and automotive.
- Strategic priorities:
- Expand SPOT-based product reach across performance tiers and adjacent verticals
- Introduce new SPOT products (for example, Apollo6 and Atomiq variants)
- Develop SPOT as an IP/licensing platform to broaden partnerships and licensing opportunities
Customers and geographic mix
- Served more than 200 end customers through distributors, resellers, and direct sales in 2024 and 2025.
- Customer concentration:
- Top five end customers represented 91% of net sales in 2025 and 92% in 2024.
- In 2025 the three largest end customers (identified as Customer E, Customer F, Customer G in filings) accounted for approximately 36%, 29%, and 20% of net sales, respectively.
- Huawei accounted for about 41% of 2024 net sales and 0.1% of 2025 net sales.
- Geographic mix:
- Mainland China accounted for 50% of net sales in 2024 and 9% in 2025, reflecting diversification away from lower-margin China sales.
